The model R3 Raman engine is a compact and rugged imaging Raman spectrograph that utilizes an innovative design that provides a super-compact spectrograph with exceptional imaging characteristics and an unmatched f/1.7 optical throughput to make every Raman signal photon count. The patented design utilizes an exclusive optical architecture that maximizes optical throughput while minimizing stray light and optical aberrations. All of these features come in a robust and very small alignment-free package that is suitable for industrial or field applications. When paired with a sensitive CCD sensor array such as the Raptor Photonics Ltd Merlin EM247 camera (as shown), the combination provides an exceptionally cost-effective vibrational Raman spectroscopy system with unsurpassed performance in this package size. The R3 was designed for use with the efficient and low-cost 532 nm diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) excitation lasers. At the 532 nm excitation wavelength, the R3 can measure Raman shifts ranging from 278 cm-1 to 4510 cm-1, enough to cover the range of most gaseous molecules of interest (CO2, O2, CO, N2, most HC’s, H2O, H2). An optional 90 cm-1 filter is available for applications requiring closer access to the excitation laser wavelength. With a DPSS continuous wave 532 nm laser, the R3 can be used for rapid identification of compounds for the pharmaceutical industry, homeland security, and gaseous chemical species monitoring in real time. With a pulsed 532 nm Nd:YAG laser, the R3 can even be used for combustion diagnostics as it covers all the major species of hydrocarbon-based fuel products.
